When it Rains it Pours

 Wednesday, March 9

Destination today ~ Kasubi where everyone gathered for the school’s monthly devotional meeting.  They have developed a more cohesive unit of school teachers and staff by worshiping together monthly.  We joined them for this exuberant praise, testimony, message and prayer.  Pastor Tim spoke on our call to listen and hear.  When we only listen to God and recognize the value of love, we can share it.  People should hear love from us.  Five of the characteristics of love are grace, truth, generosity, compassion, and sacrifice.  Great message!

While Carna provided grief sessions and Pastor Roy finished up his leadership sessions, the rest of us visited Kupona Tapp (Tumaini AIDS Prevention Program) Day Care.  What fun we had with these little children - coloring, making cardboard fans, playing ball and having a sweet snack.

This Tapp office also provides counseling, Bible study, sewing classes, baptism, home visits, love and hope. Many women have given their life to Christ because of the love they have received here.

During our lunch which included delicious fresh pineapple, watermelon and mango, it rained very hard with a strong wind, thunder and hail.  Some of us actually felt a bit chilly.  Our Ugandan friends bundled up in coats and blankets. Since it hadn’t rained in three months, they were very delighted and probably wished it lasted longer than the 45 minutes it did.

Again we went out visiting Tapp ladies to take them some toiletries, clothes, and essential food items that we purchased at a local shop.  The staples of sugar, rice, beans, and maize will last them about a week.  We learned a little bit more about these women and their families and then prayed for them.  What joy and hope they express from the little bit of time and money we spend on them.

A short walk with nurse Kaitlin took us to a Church of God Medical Clinic which has been updating each room as money has been provided.  They have even received some new medical equipment recently to assist them in providing more services.  A great opportunity has opened up for them to purchase more property behind their current location which includes buildings and land.  This would help them with lodging for the medical staff and more patient rooms.  We pray that God opens the eyes of possible donors to help with this purchase.

The days here are difficult yet rewarding.  They are great reminders of our privileges and God’s provision.  My favorite Bible verse, Philippians 4:19, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus,” says this to me.  May you be blessed by our experiences and continue to show love to all you meet.
